Quite some time ago already, I made a notecard in Second Life with some guidelines for newcomers to Second Life. I was reminded of it when I came across this video by someone known in Second Life as Strawberry Singh. It inspired me to make this blog post in which I share my guidelines. Some of these rules may seem amusing and some of them may apply only to Virtual Ability and similar groups.
I wonder how much Strawberry and I have in common.
Here goes!
Vulcan Viper's SL Guidelines
- Buy cheap enough, or make it yourself.
- Casually mentioning what you need, might get you it for free.
- Don't be the first one to go off-topic in a meeting.
- Don't lend anyone money, unless you can afford not to see it back.
- Don't tell people what you need them not to know.
- Don't trust anyone who is too busy showing himself off.
- Everything you hear in a meeting is confidential, unless the boss says otherwise.
- First the money, then the party.
- If you can do something better or cheaper than others, you've got a business.
- Remember what someone is good at.
- Report a griefer silently.
- To acquire a skill, the only things you need are information and practice.
- Don't correct someone's wording, unless there's evidence to suggest it's misunderstood.
- If you win something you like by an incorrect judgment, and no one objects, then keep quiet.
- If there's a worrying situation, then don't describe it in group chat.
