I'm afraid I must start this blog post off by sounding very unhappy about myself. I mean... What's with me these days?!
It's bad enough that I forget about things that only concern myself, but to let people down who count on me?! I need to get into the habit of starting every single day by checking my calendar. Also, if there's anything on my calendar for that day, then I need to make a habit of always keeping it in view. Anyway, I still managed to make myself useful at the conference, and I hope I helped someone who was nervous about going on stage.
On Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, Virtual Ability hosted the annual International Disability Rights Affirmation Conference (IDRAC). I was one of many greeters at that conference this year, where, as I already indicated, I turned up too late for my greeter shift. Not only that, but I also missed a presentation that I very much wanted to go to, by Lusha Huang.
It was my understanding that both days of the conference would be recorded, but I only found this video of the second and last day of the conference.
I'll admit that I haven't been very vocal about it, but I have been wondering how to get to my sweetheart. My parents' main concern is that I won't be able to make ends meet in the USA, and my spreadsheet confirms it. So, how to overcome this problem? Ask for donations? The thing is, what can I offer in return? Can I do something with my expertise on accessibility?
I'm not sure, but let's assume for the moment that we already have something to reward our donors with. How could we accept donations?
I believe that the most popular service for accepting donations is GoFundMe. So, I will definitely keep this in mind.
Another possibility is PayPal. Since I have a PayPal account, I could use PayPal.Me. The drawback is that potential donors would also have to have a PayPal account, and not everyone has or wants one.
If you have any ideas along these lines, then please let me know.
This may only be a Dutch expression. If you don't understand, just read on. You'll get it.
I have been to one of Oz Linden's Office Hours, last Wednesday. I didn't get to address the reason I went there for, but it's a start. I also went to Always Better Together, afterward. There was nobody there, but at least I went.
Btw, I do hope that James and Suellen will be alright.
Anyway, I'll do my best to keep this trend going.
