Changing GMail

Only yesterday did I find out about a message appearing on the GMail website. So, time for another quick blog post.

First and foremost, GMail is not disappearing. At least, not in the short term. If you'd like to prepare for its disappearance anyway, then this post is for you.

If you use GMail for email, then I strongly recommend switching to ProtonMail. At the time of this post it may still have issues with older emails not appearing consistently when they should, but it works well enough.

Whether or not you will still be able to use your GMail address for other services depends on how these services use that address. If they use it solely as a means of identifying you as the account holder on that service, then you have nothing to worry about. However, if they might also send you e-mail that way, then you'll need to see if you can replace the address with a new address.

I know someone who also uses GMail to save information and files. If you do the same and you still want to use Google's services for it, then I'd suggest Google Drive. The more tech-savvy among us might also consider Nextcloud. If you'd rather use a different service, then I'd recommend searching Slant.co.

As always, please feel free to share this post with anyone, especially people who talk or type about the supposedly impending disappearance of GMail.

As always, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. If you have any questions or comments, then please let me know in the form down below.
