Chain Messages

If you're reading this, then it's for one of two reasons.

Whichever is the case, thank you for reading my post.

If you're someone who has received the kind of message that I'm about to address, then I hope you'll understand my explanation and will consent to share it. If you're the original sender of this kind of message, then I hope that you can find something productive to do with your life.

With that out of the way, let's get into the topic of this post.

The Message I Received

A friend of mine recently sent me the following message:

This message is to inform all our users, that our servers have been very busy lately, so we ask you to help you solve this problem. We ask active users to forward this message to everyone in your contact list to confirm active Facebook users if you do not send this message to all of your Facebook contacts, and your account will remain inactive with the result of losing all your cont Move this message. Your smartphone will be updated within the next 24 hours, and will have a new design and a new color for chat. Dear Facebook users, we will update to Facebook from 23:00 pm. Until 5:00 am on this day. If you do not send this to all your contacts the update will be canceled and you will not have the possibility to chat with your Facebook messages

This message contains a lot of indications that it is fake. Let me go over them one by one.

so we ask you to help you solve this problem.

This is not proper English.

We ask active users to forward

Do you really believe that Facebook needs you to do that to see that you're actively using your Facebook account?

if you do not send this message to all of your Facebook contacts, and your account will remain inactive with the result of losing all your cont

This looks a bit weird, but the message is clearly that they will close your Facebook account unless you forward their message to everyone you know on Facebook. Why would Facebook do something like that?

Your smartphone will be updated within the next 24 hours

How do they know that you're using Facebook on a smartphone, or for that matter, how do they know that you have one?

...23:00 pm. Until 5:00 am on this day.

Firstly, the first time here is already past midday, so why would they add "pm" if they show the time in the 24-hours system? Secondly, the split into two sentences makes no sense here.

If you do not send this to all your contacts the update will be canceled and you will not have the possibility to chat with your Facebook messages

How would Facebook know if you sent their message to all your contacts, and why would they care?

My Conclusions

As I hope I've helped you understand, the above message contains one hint after the next that it is a deception. Whenever you get something like this, please do the following:
