EU Copyright Directive

I don't like posting about anything even remotely political on my blog, but today, I kind of have to.

As reported by Julia Reda, as well as undoubtedly many other sources, negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council have pretty much sealed the fate of the Internet as we know it...or so I've come to understand. I'll leave the explanation of the details to people who understand this kind of thing better than I do. What I will do, is share links to all the places on the web where you can (still) find me. Consider them extra ways to read or listen to what I put out onto the web or to reach me, just in case a way you've been using so far is lost.

The Services I Use

Anchor.fm - Anchor is a kind of podcasting app and service. I haven't really begun to use it yet, but I am going to. For now, my plan is to post voice versions of my blog posts on there.

Facebook - I'm guessing that everybody knows Facebook and the bad things that are going on on this service. To be honest, I'm only still on there because I have friends there and because I use Spotify and log in using my Facebook credentials. Yes, I know, I advised against that in this post, but I had no choice at the time.

Flickr - I and my friends in Virtual Ability use Flickr to post pictures from Second Life.

Gab - This is a new network that I haven't started using just yet. Maybe I'll have something there by the time you find this post.

Good Reads - I'm not much of a bookworm, but here's where I collect books that either I've found myself, or that have been suggested to me.

Hacker News - This is a news website that's mainly about security on the Internet. If you've read this blog post, then you know about the karma level I've reached on it, and why I needed to reach it. As for what Keybase is, please read on.

Hack The Box - Hack The Box is a game for people who want to learn about hacking into computers. The term hacking is probably defined in a variety of ways, depending on who you ask. I see it as getting into computers and processor-driven devices that people don't want you to get into. What you do with the information you obtain, depends on the color of your hat. ;-)

Instagram - This is a service where you can post pictures taken with a smartphone or tablet. I don't use it that often.

It's My URLs - This is a service where you can post links to your social media accounts. I started this before I had a website of my own. Now, you can find links to my account by simply following the domain name of my website with /anchor, /facebook, /flickr, or whatever service you want to find me on. I'm actually using these same redirects in this very post.

Keybase - This is a service that you can use to prove that you are who you say you are. It also has an instant messenger built into it, and the best part is, it's all encrypted using PGP. So, even if Keybase itself is lost, the technology behind it still works.

Lichess - This is a website where people can play Chess. I made an account there, just in case I can find some time to play, but I have yet to really get started on it. Also, for some reason, I'm better at playing with a physical board and pieces than I am with a board on the screen.

Minds - This is another social network that came into existence when the openness of better known social networks like Facebook and Twitter was drawn into question.

Pastebin - I use Pastebin to maintain files that are saved as text.

Pinterest - I use Pinterest to save links to resources I'll need to get to and live in the USA and I might have some other boards on there as well.

Reddit - I've started using Reddit mainly because it's one of the ways included in Keybase to prove your identity, but I do want to actually use it.

Second Life - Here's a link to my Second Life profile feed. A kind of Twitter for Second Life residents.

Twitter - Here's another social network that ended up being censored, which caused new social networks like Gab and Minds to appear. I'm so busy with other stuff that I rarely tweet anymore. I'll try to do it more. I promise.

Whatsapp - This service relies on the publication of your phone number, but I still use it.

As always, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. If you have any questions or comments, then please let me know in the form down below.
