Resource-Based Economy

I believe it was earlier this week, that I found a fundraiser for The Venus Project on Facebook. I made the mistake of sharing it. This was a mistake, not because there's something wrong with The Venus Project or their fundraiser, but because I was ill-prepared to defend them. I firmly believe in The Venus Project and the resource-based economy they propose, but that's not quite enough to defend either of them.

Some people gave me a hard time about wanting to help The Venus Project with their fundraiser. Some people in the Facebook group about The Venus Project gave me a hard time about asking about the resource-based economy, when I could have found the answers on the website of The Venus Project. I'm grateful to both groups of people for, essentially, teaching me the same lesson.

Inform yourself properly before you support or promote something or ask about it. Not only will this enable you to help spread an idea, but it will also help you avoid being taken for a proverbial ride. Oh, and it will help people who undoubtedly do not want to have to explain the same thing over-and-over again.

There's a Dutch proverb that translates to "shoemaker stick to your boot tree," a wisdom that I was silly enough not to adhere to.

Although I see the advantages of a resource-based economy - indeed, I see it as a necessity - my "boot tree" is accessibility, which explains the presentation I gave about Accessibility In Mind during the International Disability Rights Affirmation Conference 2013.

As always, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. If you have any questions or comments, then please let me know in the form down below.
